Orion 3106COD Analyzer

The new “chemical oxygen demand” analyzer can prove beneficial to plants that treat wastewater. The COD analyzer will be yet “another tool” for the engineers to monitor “water quality and prevent environmental contamination”.

The “COD analysis” helps in detecting the “levels of organic pollutants in water”. If the pollutants are identified quite early in the life cycle of the treatment plants than it indicates that there is “an issue” with “the treatment process of wastewater”. The latest addition in the portfolio “Orion products” that cater to the industry of wastewater treatment section, is the “Thermo Scientific Orion 3106 COD analyzer”.

The analyzer goes through a digestion process along with “colorimetric analysis” whereby it determines the “concentration of organic compounds that can affect water quality”. If the analysis detect a high level of COD then the further “disinfection process” will require to treat the same whereby introducing “additional hypochlorite dosing”. Consequently, the chloramines are formed and if it exceeds a certain level it can even turn carcinogenic.

“By determining organic pollutants in surface water or wastewater, COD measurement can provide a useful indicator of water quality, something that is essential to the environmental monitoring industry. By adding this new COD analyzer to our portfolio of portable and benchtop Orion water analysis instruments, we aim to provide environmental chemists with a complete solution to liquid analysis and measurement.”

The new analyzer of COD has been made to bring down “ongoing operating costs” as it requires “low maintenance and reagent consumption”. However, the control of the treatment process will remain in the hands on the users whereby it will be possible to “reduce disinfection costs”. Moreover, the “intuitive user interface” makes navigation a simple task besides enhancing the experience of the operator.

7300w2 Monitor

Monitor for the WaterWatch² Range

The 7300w² Monitor is the core product in the WaterWatch² range. The monitor is designed to interface with all of the sensors in the WaterWatch² range. The monitor specification provides all the connections required for 1 or 2 sensors, systems can be created by the use of expansion boxes to include multiple sensors. The maximum number of sensors will be limited by the practicalities of most sites. We anticipate 8 being a sensible maximum although many more can be accommodated.

The 7300w² contains an inbuilt trending display, customer configurable, that shows the last 24 hours data for any measurement point on an easy to navigate graph. This can also be downloaded for reporting purposes. An external USB port and data logging function allows users to log and retrieve all stored data for a site in a standard .csv format without the need for specialist SD cards or compatible hardware.

Combining sensors provides a very cost effective way of simultaneously monitoring parameters such as dissolved oxygen and suspended solids in an activated sludge plant, or pH and turbidity at a treatment works outfall where the sensors can be located close together.

TurbiTechw2 LA Suspended Solids Sensor

Self Cleaning Suspended Solids Sensor

The TurbiTechw² LA Sensor has been designed for use in aeration systems monitoring suspended solids also known as mixed liquor suspended solids or activated sludge where solids are typically in the range of 1,500 to 3,500 mg/l. The sensor can also measure Returned Activated Sludge (RAS), Surplus Activated Sludge (SAS) and suspended solids or turbidity.

The large optical surface and sample volume combine to ensure that the sensor is providing information that is reliable and representative of the solids present in the process. Deposits of fats and grease on the sensing area do not prevent the sensor from measuring unlike sensors with small optical surfaces. In addition, the sensor incorporates a self cleaning mechanism that ensures the optical surfaces are kept clean at all times, the cleaning system is designed to avoid problems with ragging and does not smear the optical system.

TurbiTechw2 LS Suspended Solids and Turbidity Sensor

Self Cleaning Sensor for Suspended Solids and Turbidity Monitoring

The TurbiTechw² LS Sensor is designed to monitor the levels of suspended solids or turbidity typically found in final effluent from municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants. It is also great at monitoring solids in the intake to both effluent and drinking water treatment processes.

Monitoring of these key parameters requires sensors that are reliable and accurate, the TurbiTechw² LS meets this requirement perfectly. The large optical surfaces and sample volume ensure that the information provided by the sensor is both representative of the process and tolerant of fouling. In addition, the sensor incorporates a self cleaning mechanism that ensures that the optical surfaces are kept clean at all times, the cleaning system is designed to avoid problems with ragging and does not smear the optical system.

The TurbiTechw² LS Sensor employs infrared light at 860 nm using the 90º Light Scatter principle in accordance with ISO7027 (2000). The cleaning process is automatically initiated by the 7300w² Monitor at a user determined frequency. The cleaning process takes only 90 seconds, which means that the sensor is available for 99.5% of the time with a 6 hourly cleaning cycle.

TurbiTechw2 HR Suspended Solids Sensor

Self Cleaning Sensor for Suspended Solids and Turbidity Monitoring

The TurbiTechw² HR Sensor has been specifically designed for use in wastewater treatment systems where high levels of suspended solids are desirable in the aeration phase. Membrane Bio Reactors (MBR) typically run with MLSS values in the region of 8,000 to 14,000 mg/l. High MLSS concentrations promote numerous process benefits, including stable operation, complete nitrification, and reduced biosolids production reducing biological volume requirements (and associated footprint) to only 20-30 percent of conventional biological processes.

Overview

The TurbiTechw² HR sensor is suitable for monitoring solids in higher ranges than the standard LA version of the sensor due to it’s shorter path length.

In addition the sensor incorporates a self cleaning mechanism that ensures the optical surfaces are kept clean at all times, the cleaning system is designed to avoid problems with ragging and does not smear the optical system. The cleaning system ensures that manual intervention on a routine basis is not required, the sensor should simply be checked as part of general site housekeeping. The large optical surface and sample volume combine to ensure that the sensor is providing information that is reliable and representative of the solids present in the process. Deposits of fats and grease on the sensing area do not prevent the sensor from measuring unlike sensors with small optical surfaces

The TurbiTechw² HR Sensor uses infrared light at 860 nm and operates using the Light Attenuation Principle. The cleaning mechanism uses a polyurethane wiper seal, sealed by 2 Nitrile ‘H’ Rings that finish the cleaning process. The Nitrile seals can be exchanged for Viton if the process media dictates. The cleaning process is automatically initiated by the 7300w² Monitor at a user determined frequency. The cleaning process takes only 90 seconds, which means that the sensor is available for 99.5% of the time with a 6 hourly cleaning cycle.

Product Description

The ScanIR®3 thermal scanner is designed for a wide variety of noncontact temperature measurement applications, including those in harsh industrial environments. Its robust housing incorporates standard water-cooling and air purge and features built-in laser sighting. A rugged processor box provides universal input and output (I/O) capabilities in the field without the need for an external computer.

The ScanIR3 linescanner and thermal imaging system has one of the fastest scan speeds in the industry and offers complete data about even the highest-speed manufacturing processes. Unlike point sensors that measure a single point, the linescanner measures multiple temperature points across a scan line. Its motorized mirror scans at rates up to 150 lines per second, allowing rapid detection of temperature non-uniformities and hot spots. Rotating optics collect infrared radiation at 1024 points within a 90-degree field of view, and industry-leading optical resolution (up to 200:1) enables detection of smaller temperature anomalies.

The ScanIR3 system is exceptionally easy to deploy and manage: a single bundled sensing head cable with a one-click connector to the scanner allows for fast and trouble-free installation. The unit’s processor box supports various industry interfaces, including Ethernet, fiber optics (optional), and analog/digital I/O.

Designed for reliability and continuous operation, this advanced infrared linescanner provides accurate, real-time thermal imaging and additional features, including:

  • Reliable brushless scanning motor
  • Field-replaceable window

ScanView™ Pro Software

Real-time thermal imaging is provided by ScanView Pro software for temperature monitoring, display and analysis. With ScanView Pro software, you can quickly detect a hot spot or non-uniformity before it becomes a problem. The multifunctional ScanView Pro software allows custom configuration of ScanIR3 operating parameters, and display of thermal images and temperature profiles on a standard personal computer (PC).

The software includes features to subdivide thermal images from the ScanIR3 linescanner into portions of specific interest. Temperatures in each portion can be processed for a certain math function, such as average, maximum, or minimum temperature. In case of a thermal defect, a fail-safe alarm is triggered and logged.

Accessories

The ScanIR3 linescanner is offered with an optional modular, high-temperature enclosure system specifically designed to protect the scanner from exposure to process temperatures up to 1090°C (1994°F). While protected in this enclosure, the linescanner can operate comfortably in high-temperature processes, such as those seen in manufacturing steel and other metals, as well as glass and a variety of minerals.
